National President's Message 15-Apr-2013

Dear Friends,

As we move closer to end of this financial year, I am sure it would be a demanding period for most of us. We all must be running hectic schedules, with closing of accounts, yearly appraisals, Organization restructuring, compensation reviews etc. But in these eventful times, we must also pause and reflect back to see what went right & what could have been better and also plan ahead for the future.

When I look back at the pace of activities in the year 2012, it gives me immense satisfaction to have conceptualized and initiate some promising new projects of NHRDN. The year 2012 involved working towards realization of these plans through enhanced activities and scope of NHRDN. All this was possible only with the active involvement & support of the Chapters, participation of all our members and our National Secretariat.

It was great to witness the huge success of NHRDN 16th Annual National Conference on the theme ‘Energizing for Excellence’.  The conference saw a congregation of over 1400 delegates at HICC, Hyderabad and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the members, delegates & speakers who participated in this event and made it a grand success.

Spread over a 3 day period, the event saw many speakers with a wealth of experience in their respective fields touching many topical themes in relation to excellence. It was a brilliant experience for all those who attended. I am sure the participants must have enjoyed the rich perspective shared by various thought leaders. With a diverse group of highly capable speakers, leaders and panelists including Dr APJ Abdul Kalam gracing this conference, it was like a feather in the cap for NHRDN. I would like to congratulate all the Biennial Award winners for their contribution to the HR movement and NHRDN.

I would specially like to commend Mr. Ravikanth Reddy, President Hyderabad Chapter and  the Hyderabad Chapter team for planning and executing this mega event so successfully. Kudos to the Hyderabad Chapter for a well organized and excellent programme! You made us proud! For the benefit of all our members, you would find a very exhaustive coverage of the Conference in this issue.

In our endeavor of strengthening the HR education, after the success of our collaboration with MDI, Gurgaon, we signed another MoU with IIM Ranchi in December 2012. NHRD would be supporting IIM Ranchi with PGD-HRM Course curriculum design and mentoring the young students. The Concept of “National Professor” was also launched during the year. This initiative would help us offer professional mentoring to the upcoming Education Institutes. To recognize the promising HR students, we also launched & awarded the winners of the First NHRDN “Udai Pareek Student Scholarships” at the 16th Annual National Conference in Hyderabad.

At this juncture, I would like to say that we cannot rest on our laurels. We have set ourselves a high standard, be it our ambitious initiatives or forging new relationships with various other organizations for further strengthening the HR movement. It is now time to take it further to a new horizon of excellence and this would not be possible without your valuable support & contribution.

NHRDN in association with People Matters is now undertaking Rating of B-Schools. We realized that all the stakeholders are in need of an objective and unbiased rating of B-Schools. Through rating, NHRDN is now focusing on identification of gaps, and would later hand hold the B-Schools and make efforts to bridge the gap, the next step being that of accreditation of B-Schools in future. This initiative, on one hand, will provide the much required clarity to parents and students in making the right choices, on the other, it will fulfill the need of corporates who will hire them.  The first Report will be launched in People Matters Magazine very soon.

During this last quarter of FY 12-13, NHRDN also introduced many capacity building initiatives on topical themes such as National Summit on Compensation and Benefits, 1st National Summit on HR Shared Services, National HRM Summit jointly with BMA, 1st National HR Quiz - A Challenge Championship and also enhanced Chapter interface with Chapters like Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai, Jaipur, Jammu, Lucknow and Delhi.  All the activities were very well received and created engagement among our various stakeholders.

In the world of virtual presence, NHRDN has initiated the revamp of its website. The new website will capture the aspirations of young minds and enrich all users. It would not only be dynamic & engaging but also member friendly. With your support, our aim is to make NHRDN website as a reference point for all HR Professionals in India.

On NHRDN’s quest to build the leadership pipeline and recognize excellence in Budding and Young Managers, I am delighted to inform you that Prof Ramcharan has instituted Awards for Young Managers and B-Schools Students.  National Secretariat will soon roll out the Awards and invite all Young Managers and B-Schools students to participate in the Competitions. We sincerely thank Prof Ramcharan for supporting NHRDN in this endeavor.

NHRDN is also coming up with its maiden initiative for the CEO’s – “CEO’s Conclave 2013” in May 2013. This one day Conclave will be an action packed event witnessing distinguished CEO’s addressing the HR fraternity. Many more initiatives are in offering and we will share them with you in the coming Newsletters.

At this juncture we are sorry for the delay of this Newsletter, as we took time in preparing the Conference proceedings. It would be now published in the subsequent edition of this Newsletter.

I wish you all happiness and success in both your professional and personal endeavors.

God Bless & Warm Regards,

S.Y. Siddiqui
