Conference Theme : 2010 – “Towards The Next Orbit”
The recent turn of events has been epochal. The globalization of production process and consumption pattern, the internationalization of financial markets and corporate strategies, the diffusion of technology and related R&D and knowledge, the emergence of global media and communication mechanism, and a global political economy has irrevocably created a flat and a borderless world. Today, the landscape of business is characterized with unprecedented complexities, hyper turbulence and ambiguities. The economic world has become indubitably multi-polar. Business models and paradigms of competitive strategy organized around the dualities of local and global, cost and customization, the familiar and the unborn have been truly dismantled. “Corporate Darwinism”, visible in rampant mergers and acquisitions, has indelibly rewritten the stages and processes in the life cycle of firms. The growing incidence of small enterprises acquiring big corporations has overturned the adage of big fish swallowing the small fish. The notion of size as the basis for sustainable business has been unceremoniously jettisoned. On the other hand, “ideas”, the fruits of human endeavor, has become the cornerstone of business success. In this era of discontinuities, organizations frequently resemble ships caught in the dangerous swirls of turbulent waters without any navigational aid of established theories, practised wisdom and winning ideas.
This Global conference is being organized to consider and construct the array of forces and factors in the business landscape, the issues and challenges for contemporary organizations in terms of their leadership styles, governance structures, strategic positioning, employment relations, management practices and change efforts. In so doing they will not only develop our understanding of the evolving management practices, processes and change but provide the signposts and roadmaps for succeeding in doing business in the next orbit.
